Krones installed a first PET filling line with dry-aseptic technology (Line 1) in 2014 and put a nearly identical Contipure AseptBloc DN (Line 2) into operation in 2020. So, the latest decision was a relatively easy one: to once again choose this proven filling technology for a third aseptic line.
At its plant in Aalter, Belgium, the dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina stops their HDPE production and is switching entirely to PET bottles.

Line 3 can access two dry-end options: One Variopac Pro WTS for wrap-around cartons and as alternative a Variopac Pro FS for shrink packs and a Variopac Pro TFS for tray-based shrink packs.
This third aseptic line from Krones is rated at 24,000 containers per hour based on 1.0-liter bottles. The new line will fill primarily liquid cream but also other dairy products. For instance, FrieslandCampina will use it to fill ESL milk into PET containers for the first time.
Brecht Deleu was involved with the implementation of the first Krones aseptic line in 2014 and was also one of FrieslandCampina's project managers for the second line: "After our positive experience with the first two Contipure AseptBloc DN lines, it was only a logical decision that we would continue to rely on this technology,” he explains.
For the new Line 3, FrieslandCampina is constructing a new building directly next to the existing filling hall. Once the new line is up and running, FrieslandCampina will dismantle the three existing filling lines for white HDPE-bottles. PET Line 3 will cover the bigger part of the filling capacity of the three HDPE lines. This also leaves room for further expansion.
