University studies, engineering technician certification, master craftsman, advanced training: These days, there’s is a seemingly endless variety of options for continuing your education and furthering your career. But in many companies, people with vocational training certificates are, in fact, more highly sought after than ever before. And, as Tanja Jurasch shows us, these jobs are fun! Tanja is a mechatronics technician at Krones, where she spends her days building labelling machines – and she loves her job. “I have always wanted to work in a skilled trade. Early on, I had considered going into joinery. And then I realized that mechatronics technicians do more or less the same thing, except that they work with metal instead of wood,” she recalls. Around ten years ago, she completed secondary school and embarked on her vocational training.
Working on paper is not her thing
In the subsequent years, she has frequently been asked if she might like to advance her career, for instance by taking her technician certificate to the next level because, as she’s often been told, she certainly has what it takes. But Tanja Jurasch has intentionally opted against any such career moves. “I am completely content with my work. I love the hands-on aspect and have no desire to leave it. I never enjoyed school. And I always say that if I’d wanted to work in an office, I’d have done the training for that instead,” she laughs. She much prefers to make things reality rather than draw them out on paper.
