Coca-Cola Dorsten will round out an existing canning line with a Krones dry end and has broadened the range of its packaging variants by installing an additional packer in its turnkey Krones canning line.
The Dorsten facility is the canning specialist within the matrix of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Deutschland GmbH (CCEP DE) and also the biggest of CCEP DE’s 16 German facilities. With an output of roughly five million hectolitres of CSDs, it produces about a fifth of the country’s volume. CCEP DE is now upsizing its canning capacities in its Dorsten facility yet again.

Not so long ago, in April 2020, the facility commissioned a turnkey Krones canning line rated at 120,000 containers per hour. But it had so far only been possible to pack individual cans into 18-can or 24-can trays on this second canning line. To expand the options, Krones has now added another packer, a Variopac Pro FS, which was put into operation in August 2022 and can now produce shrink packs of 4, 6 or 8 cans.
Another project relates to the plant’s first canning line, which has included a filler and a mixer from Krones since 2015. These two machines are now to be relocated to a different hall section and complemented with the new machines for the dry end, thus increasing the output from 90,000 to 120,000 cans per hour. The line will then handle standard, sleek and slim cans, ranging in size between 0.15 and 0.5 litres, and the old dry end will subsequently be dismantled.
“In late 2022, we will be running two almost identical high-speed lines, each rated at 120,000 cans per hour, providing obvious synergetic effects. So it was clear for us to opt for Krones,” says Plant Manager Ralf Schmalenbeck.
