How do business activities affect the climate and global water and forest resources? In an effort to answer this question, the not-for-profit organization CDP runs a platform for companies and other organizations to disclose their environmental impact data. Collection and reporting must be done in accordance with a prescribed standard. The data then serves as the basis for annual CDP scoring, in which the respective sustainability risks and performance are analyzed and assessed.
The Krones Group improved its CDP score by a full grade for 2022 and is now better than the industry average.
Krones’ actions are yielding results
At Krones, the latest score release was eagerly awaited. That’s because, since receiving a “C” rating for the year 2021, the Krones Group had invested considerable energy into advancing its sustainability strategy – particularly through the new corporate vision “Solutions beyond tomorrow”. From the company’s perspective, much had happened as a result. But the question remained: would the CDP score reflect that? The answer is a resounding “yes”. For the first time ever, Krones has received a “B” across all three categories: climate change, water security, and supplier engagement. And with that, the company performed better than the average for our industry.
Our scores tell us that we’re on the right track. But we still we still have a long way to go. We’d like to earn an “A”. And so, we’ll build on what we have accomplished so far and strive continuously to evolve and improve. And although that’s going to require a lot of hard work, our motivation and our desire to change are up to the task!
What does a “B” mean?
To receive a B score, companies must demonstrate two things: First, that they are aware of their impact on the environment, deforestation and water security. And second, that they have taken action to reduce these risks in keeping with the 1.5-degree trajectory laid out in the Paris Agreement.
